Hooked on Old Houses? Wouldn’t this be a fun house to decorate for Christmas? A new detached garage that fits the style of the house was built with a home office upstairs:
The architect on the project was John Battle of Battle Associates in Concord. The screen was made from a refurbished cast-iron fireback. That meant that most of the original details were intact, but it took a lot of work to do to make it a comfortable and family-friendly home. The clapboard-and-shingle house is now 3,818 square feet, which includes a third floor with a guest room and a TV room. It was featured in This Old House, and the article says, “With its stalwart gambrel roof presiding over a busy corner in a high-profile historic district, the Victorian-era house had its own kind of period style, and no one—least of all its new owners—wanted to mess with that.”
