When I heard that Lady Gaga bought a $22 million estate overlooking Zuma Beach in Malibu, I kind of expected it to be something flashy and contemporary. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it’s actually a more traditional French Provincial-style home that was designed by architect Steve Giannetti.
Steve Giannetti and his wife Brooke, who writes the popular design blog Velvet Linen, are amazingly talented. I’ve got their book Patina Style sitting on the coffee table in my sunroom right now. So I was excited to see what he did with this house in Malibu.
His portfolio describes this project as “An Equestrian Estate overlooking Zuma Beach in Malibu that was based on a collection of European farmhouses. Construction by John Finton and interiors by Madeline Stuart.”
The house was built in 2006 on nearly 6 acres. It comes with a barn for up to eight horses, a riding arena, and a number of pens and riding trails.
It was featured in Veranda in ’06, and it doesn’t look like much has changed since then (you can see photos from the magazine here).
The kitchen has a limestone island, a Wolf range, and a terrace with ocean views.
There’s a “secret door” that leads to what the former owner called the Bat Cave – an 800-bottle wine cellar, home theater with bar, and a way cool vintage Brunswick Bowl two-lane bowling alley from the 1960s with original scoreboard.
Lady Gaga (aka Stefani Germanotta) has been dating actor Taylor Kinney, who you might recognize from the TV show Chicago Fire, since 2011. She posted this cute photo of the two of them on Instagram:
Rumors have been swirling that they’re secretly married, but I don’t think that’s ever been confirmed. Someone who is more up on celebrity gossip than I am will have to let us know!
This bedroom is in a separate guest house with a kitchenette:
Here’s how it looked when it was featured in Veranda:
Joni wrote a great post about this house on her blog Cote de Texas when it first hit the market and has more photos and information about it. You can also see more on Zillow, The Agency listing, and Morning View Drive.
BTW, I featured Steve and Brooke’s own home in Santa Monica when they put it on the market, and you can see it here:
