The Art of Building photography competition shortlist announced

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque by Hoang Long LyA number of the images capture the construction progress and maintenance of buildings – Vietnamese photographer   Hoang Long Ly   shows   a cleaner   among the gilded arches of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in   Abu Dhabi, while   British photographer Richard Pennington offers   a worms-eye   view of the construction of Amsterdam’s new metro line. Flames lapping the edges of an Indian brick kiln, the concrete beams of Herzog De Meuron’s Beijing Olympic stadium, and a Gothic doorway in Milan’s Doumo are   among   the   images shortlisted for   this year’s Art of Building Photographer of the Year competition (+ slideshow). The name of the winner, who will be awarded a £3,000 cash prize, will be announced on 5 February. Meanwhile, the   submission from   Pessoa Neto captures two children in a   dramatic light shaft leaking through the concrete roof plane of a library by architect Alvaro Siza in   northern   Portugal.
