The National Museum of Scotland has received a £1.3m grant from the Wellcome Trust to deliver a new centre for scientific engagement, part of a wider £14.1m project to increase exhibition space by 40 per cent.
Working in collaboration with Gareth Hoskins Architects and Metaphor Design the institution will create six new galleries housing science and technology focused exhibits.
Clare Matterson, director of strategy at the Wellcome Trust said: “The Wellcome Trust is delighted to support National Museums Scotland in the development of their new Science and Technology galleries, which will begin a new phase in the lives of these objects and provide a wonderful opportunity for the public to engage with the stories behind them.”
The new centre is scheduled to open in 2016.
