The former Causewayend School, Aberdeen, is to be subject to a £20m student housing project by the UNITE Group which will see the C listed school refurbished together with the construction of a new build annexe on the one acre site.
Designed by Acanthus Architects df and HarrisonStevens landscape architects the proposal will house around 400 students from the 2016/17 academic year and adopt a quality palette of traditional granite and natural slate, intended as a contemporary take on the Scots Baronial style of the existing school.
Richard Simpson, managing director of property for UNITE said: “This site is in an excellent central location, in a market with favourable supply/demand dynamics and in a city we expect to experience continued growth. By renovating and bringing back into use a listed building, we are pleased to contribute to the regeneration of this city centre location.”
The proposal will be delivered in tandem with a larger build on Edinburgh’s St Leonard’s Street, part of a wider regional push by the student housing provider driven out of London by high prices.
