Plans to create a £25m visitor resort at the foot of Ben Nevis have been tabled by the Forestry Commission and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to boost the regions tourism economy.
Indicative plans, drawn up by Smith Scott Mullan Associates, propose building a 5 star hotel together with bunkhouses, lodges and a campsite within woodland at Leanachan Forest, Fort William.
These facilities will be spread across five separate zones encompassing improvements to approach roads, the resort hotel itself, the Nevis Ski Centre, a campsite and an expansion of the Lochaber Rural Complex.
Options under consideration include the creation of an 80 bedroom spa hotel or 50 timber lodges, or some combination of the two. Feedback on these ideas, still at an early stage, is being sought via a public drop-in session at the Pinemartin Café, Nevisrange, on 4 November.
A planning application for the 20 year project is expected to follow in the summer.
