Well, she did it her way, in three ways. This is the living room of Tanya from Dans le Lakehouse (formerly Dans le Townhouse before her family’s move to a cottage on Lake Superior). A focal point for the room? A hanging frame gallery. With more baubles still to hang, some of the smaller ones got the art treatment with a handful of painted frames hung on the wall. Or a place to gather and open presents? A pair of barren trees in the corner of the room later got dressed up with lights an ornaments of their own. They can be a handcuff, if you’re the type that moves to the beat of a different drummer. What’s your favorite holiday alternative? (You can see more photos here.) Or come up with your own. A love of sparkly ornaments inspired her to find the places, other than an evergreen tree, where she could display her collection. The first step is deconstructing what you think a Christmas tree should be. A potted tree. After finding this rustic ladder at her mother-in-laws rural home, Tanya dragged it into the living room and adorned it with ornaments tied with satin ribbon. A ladder. Determine what you like about the tradition, then get creative. A display for ornaments and lights?
