JM submit Edinburgh University postgraduate housing plan

Rear facades looking out onto an interior courtyard space would be finished in textured brick, render and zinc clad dormers. In their design statement JM said: “The mews character one and a half storey façade has been designed to ensure that the existing stone wall is prominent with all the new materials (timber and zinc roofing) secondary and set back. The introduction of feature vertical dormer windows has been introduced to enhance the façade and break up the horizontal nature of the proposed form.”
JM is currently on site with Edinburgh University’s Holyrood North. A gate with feature vertical timber panels connects this element to a five and a half storey ashlar stone tenement facing Buccleugh Street. “The re-use of the existing random rubble natural sand stone base follows the weaving street line of Meadow Lane and will create a textured and robust ground level wall finish that sits in harmony with the surrounding built environment.
