Planners have given their consent to a three storey research and office building for Heriot Watt University and the British Geological Survey on the institution’s Riccarton campus, Edinburgh. Clad in facing brickwork and curtain walling the scheme includes a first floor walkway which will connect to the existing Enterprise Oil building. The boomerang shaped block pivots around a ‘prow’ of meeting rooms overlooking gardens, which can be merged to create one large conference space, with a second floor balcony offering views out to Edinburgh Castle. A stair, overlooking the courtyard, passes through the floor plates, balanced by a core of toilets and disabled toilet, together with cleaners store, kitchenette and coms room space.”
