This past spring we purchased a 1960’s style brick ranch that aesthetically was still stuck in that decade. The home had great bones, but like most houses built at that time, contained lots of tiny «living» spaces, like a small L shaped kitchen, a super dark paneled den and a long, narrow living room.
My husband, who does home renovations for a living remodeled the space, by taking down walls to make an open concept living/kitchen/dining room. We also gutted the kitchen and installed new tile floors, cabinets, countertops, sink, appliances, subway tile backsplash and crown molding. We also pulled up all the carpet and refinished the hardwood floors (they were a reddish brown, and we stained them super dark).
Of course throughout the house, there was lots of wallpaper to remove and the whole house required a new coat of paint, crown molding and new shoe molding. We just recently installed built in bookcases and a window seat in the living room too.
We love the result and while we still have to remodel the bathrooms down the road,the house is a real gem! And we think it’s beautiful too! 🙂
